2007 NHRA Rules  -  12-27-2006

While it remains the responsibility of the racer to know the rules pertaining to his/her vehicle and class I would like to highlight some rules that will be enforced in the 2007 Season at Redding Drag Strip. It is important to note that there have been changes in the rules from 2006.

For Super Pro, Pro and Sportsman: (and/or street legal racers)

Super Pro ET: 7.00 to 11.99
Pro ET: 10.00 to 13.99
Sportsman ET: 12.00 to 19.99 (change from 06)


Section 1A – Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous Bottle(s) in driver compartment must be equipped with a relief valve and vented outside of driver’s compartment. Bottle must be stamped with a DOT-1800 pound rating and permanently mounted. (No hose clamps or Tie wraps)

Section 1A – Helmet: Drivers in all 13.99 or quicker cars and dune buggy-type vehicles running 14.00 or slower must wear a helmet meeting Snell K98, 2000, 2005 or SFI 31.1A, 31.2A, or 31.1/2005 Specs.

Section 1A – Protective Clothing: 10.00 to 13.99 all E.T. nitrous-equipped cars with an OEM or .024-inch steel firewall: Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 Mandatory.
- - All open body vehicles running 11.99 or quicker: Gloves meeting SFI Spec 3.3/1 and arm restraints mandatory
- - Dune Buggy 12.00 or slower: Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1, gloves meeting SFI Spec 3.3/1, and arm restraints mandatory.

Section 1A – Driveline: Driveshaft loop required on all cars running 13.99 or quicker and utilizing slicks, except vehicles running 11.49 or slower equipped with street tires.

Section 1A – Master Cutoff: Mandatory on any car with a battery running 9.99 or quicker, any car exceeding 135 Mph or any car where the battery is relocated into the trunk area.

Section 1A – Transmission, Automatic: Spring-loaded, positive reverse lockout device and functional neutral safety switch mandatory. Transmission Shield meeting SFI Spec 4.1 is mandatory on any car running 10.99 or quicker; or any car exceeding 135 Mph.

Section 1A – Driver Credentials: Valid NHRA Competition License mandatory for cars running 9.99 or quicker. Valid state – or government issued driver’s license beyond a learner’s permit level mandatory for cars running 10.00 or slower.

Section 1A – Roll Bar: Roll Bar mandatory in all cars (including T-Tops) running 11.00 to 11.49, in convertibles running 11.00 to 13.49, and in all dune buggy type vehicles running 12.00 and slower.

Section 1A – Roll Cage: Roll Cage mandatory in cars running 10.99 or quicker or any car exceeding 135 Mph.
Section 1A – Hood: Optional. Carburetors must be covered by flash shield or scoop. Hood Scoop Permitted.

Section 1A – Rear End: Aftermarket axles and axle-retention device mandatory on any car running 10.99 or quicker, or any car with locked differential.


ET Motorcycle: Any motorcycle running at Redding Drag Strip 7.50 and slower.

Section 1C: Controls: Handlebars must measure at least 22 inches overall with the grips removed. Snap back throttle mandatory. After leaving the starting line the rider’s feet must remain on the pegs.

Section 1C: Ignition Shutoff: Motorcycles 10.99 or quicker must be equipped with a positive ignition cutoff switch attached to the rider with a lanyard.

Section 1C: Protective Clothing: Full all-leathers or SFI spec 40.1/2 suit mandatory on motorcycles running 120 Mph or faster. Two Piece suits must be joined together with a zipper at the waist. SFI Spec 40.1/1 or 40.1/2 suit or leather jacket, leather boots/shoes above the ankle, and leather gloves are mandatory on ALL motorcycles.

While these are the rules I have chosen to highlight please remember all racers are responsible for knowing the safety/race requirements for their vehicles. I would like to make the 2007 season the safest on record so please help me by cooperating with my staff as they enforce the rules. Thank you and see you all at the track.
